In the field
This visit is in line with the France 2030 plan, of which Mecaware is a prizewinner with its ScrapCO2METcollaborative project: industrialization of an in situ recycling process for gigafactory scrap and reincorporation of metals into the value chain.
A producer of strategic metals by recycling technological waste using a disruptive and virtuous chemical process, start-up Mecaware has already secured €50 million since its launch in 2020, from a pool of investors and the French government. Further accelerating its development, it aims to become a major player in the recycling of electric batteries and the production of strategic metals in France and Europe. This is a crucial issue for our country's sovereignty over strategic metals and for reindustrialization.
Supported by Mecaware, ScrapCO2MET is a collaborative project involving Verkor, MTB and the academic laboratories Institut de Chimie et Biochimie Moléculaires et Supramoléculaires (ICBMS - Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1/CNRS/CPE Lyon/INSA Lyon) and Laboratoire d'Electrochimie et de Physicochimie des Matériaux et des Interfaces (LEPMI - CNRS/Université Grenoble Alpes/Université Savoie Mont-Blanc). The project will add a circular economy component to the fast-growing battery manufacturing sector, enabling the production of 7,000 tonnes a year of recycled strategic metals on an industrial scale, in particular lithium, nickel, cobalt and manganese.
"France 2030 has enabled us to mobilize key partners to address the issue of resource sovereignty in the energy transition from a territorial perspective. France 2030 is also a mark of confidence that generates significant leverage for the financing of our development. Bruno BONNELL honors us with his visit and has seen that, at MECAWARE, we're making progress!
Arnaud Villers d'Arbouet,
co-founder and CEO of MECAWARE
